How to use this calculator
Calculate a body mass index from height and weight. Enter weight (kilograms), height (centimeters). The result updates when you change an input. To compare two sets of inputs, save scenario A, then enter the second set; the result panel shows the difference.
Formula and limits
BMI = weight(kg) ÷ height(m)². BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis; it does not distinguish muscle from fat. This tool does not interpret results for children or pregnancy. Reference: CDC Adult BMI guidance (cdc.gov/bmi/adult-calculator/).
Worked example
The following example uses the calculator’s starting values. It is an illustration of the method, not a recommended target.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| Weight (kilograms) | 75 |
| Height (centimeters) | 180 |
Body mass index (kg/m²): 23.148
Use alongside other health information, not as a diagnosis.
Interpreting your result
These tools describe measurements; they do not diagnose conditions or prescribe a target. Measurement technique, age, pregnancy, body composition, and other context can affect interpretation. Discuss clinical questions with a qualified professional.
Comparing alternatives
Save the first result as scenario A, then change one input. The comparison shows the numeric difference; it does not label either result as better. Choose inputs that describe realistic alternatives. Values shown on screen are rounded, so calculations from rounded intermediate results may differ slightly.
